Takin’ Back Roads - Track 10
© Tim Lengerich 2005

Desert Sunset

I got no money and nowhere to turn
Got nobody and loneliness to burn
My life is stuck in the mud of despair
There’s a smell of trouble in the air

Takin’ back roads to miss my friends
Too embarrassed to see ‘em when
I’m draggin’ a ball and chain
With no one but me to blame

Knew a woman once with such a pretty name
Said she loved me but I couldn’t do the same
We played around for a season or two
But in the end she couldn’t love me too

My back’s bowed against the wind
Takin’ blows upon my chin
My flag’s flyin’ at half mast
The future lookin’ like my past

I bury my head to another sunrise
Can’t wait for darkness to take away my sight
Just one more day not bringin’ hope into my life
‘Cept in a sunset that delivers me the night

Takin’ back roads to miss my friends
Too embarrassed to see ‘em when
I’m draggin’ a ball and chain
With no one but me to blame

My back’s bowed against the wind
Takin’ blows upon my chin
My flag’s flyin’ at half mast
The future lookin’ like my past
