Out There, Anywhere, All The Time

Sonoran Eyes - Track 14
© Tim Lengerich 2002

hedgehog

The glint of a phainopepla's red eyes
Red as the mistletoe berries beside,
The fire of a diamondback's piercing gleam
Staring you down, her tail rattling

The bend of a tree in breeze
The flick of a flicker's wing
The whip of a lizard tail
A deer mincing

When I look in your eyes
That's what I see
All kinds of things sparkling
Back at me

Sonoran eyes, Sonoran eyes
That's how you look at me
With Sonoran eyes
That's how you look at me
With Sonoran eyes

Wild flower's of pink, yellow and blue
Perfuming the morning in shimmering dew
Desert willow's honey-sweet scent
Bouquet of lavender in the wind

Spinning on the desert floor
Dust devils in your nose
After a summer storm
Aroma of creosote

I look in your eyes
And that's what comes through
The scent of a dozen things
Living in you

Sonoran eyes, Sonoran eyes
I'm all in love with your Sonoran eyes
I'm all in love with your Sonoran eyes

The tinkling flow of a tiny stream
Tattoos on a cactus from a woodpecker's beak
The breeze giving voice through Saguaro spines
Morse code from a horned owl in the night

Rustling from a towhee's scratch
Gila monster's warning hiss
Mighty rams mighty whacks
Thunder so wondrous

I look in your eyes
And that's what I hear lovely things echoing
In my ears

Sonoran eyes, Sonoran eyes
I'm all in love with your Sonoran eyes
I'm all in love with your Sonoran eyes
